Application
This Anti-RNA polymerase II Antibody, clone CTD4H8, AlexaFluor™ 488 Conjugate is validated for use in Immunocytochemistry for the detection of RNA polymerase II.
Immunocytochemistry Analysis: A 1:100 dilution from a representative lot detected RNA polymerase II in HeLa cells.
The unconjugated antibody (Cat. No. 05-623 & 05-623-Z) is shown to be suitable also for Western blotting, chromatin IP, ChIP-seq, and immunocytochemistry.
General description
DNA-directed RNA polymerase II subunit RPB1 (EC 2.7.7.6; EC 2.7.7.48; UniProt P24928; also known as DNA-directed RNA polymerase II subunit A, DNA-directed RNA polymerase II subunit RPB1, DNA-directed RNA polymerase III largest subunit, hRPB220, hsRPB1, RNA polymerase II subunit B1, RPBh1, RpIILS) is encoded by the POLR2A (also known as POLR2, POLRA, RPB1, RPO2, RPOL2) gene (Gene ID 5430) in human. RNA polymerase II (Pol II) is a 550 kDa, multi-subunit enzyme responsible for the transcription of protein-coding genes. Transcription initiation requires recruitment of the complete transcription machinery to a promoter via solicitation by activators and chromatin remodeling factors. Pol II can coordinate 10 to 14 subunits. This complex interacts with the promoter regions of genes and a variety of elements and transcription factors. The DNA binding domain of the polymerase is a groove where TFIIB orients the DNA for unwinding and transcription.
